OUYA available at retail on June 4 for $99

OUYA available at retail on June 4 for TKTK DNP

The Android-powered $99 OUYA game console becomes available at retail on June 4th -- a date which was revealed this week during the Game Developers Conference. OUYA's calling June 4th its "official launch date," despite Kickstarter backers receiving units starting this month. Essentially, the two month waiting period between Kickstarter boxes and retail availability is being used as a consumer beta, giving OUYA time to adjust its software after getting feedback from early adopters.

It's not clear if bundles will be available, but the game console itself and a controller (as well as power and HDMI cables, plus two AA batteries for the controller) are included in the $99 package. Major retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and others are on board, so it shouldn't be too hard locating one in June should your interest be piqued -- and yes, pre-orders are available. Of course, it's a pretty small game console, so it might be a bit tough locating the thing with your eyes.

Bourbon SteakBOURBON STEAK

Steak is probably one of the easiest and manliest foods to cook. There?s nothing like taking a nice, hearty slab of beef, throwing it on a grill and grilling it to your exact specifications.

But what makes a great steak? Often times, it?s the marinade.

Difficulty: Easy
Serves: 1
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 2 hours, 10 minutes

Ingredients:
-?????? ? cup of soy sauce
-?????? ? cup of bourbon
-?????? 1 clove of garlic, pressed or minced
-?????? ? teaspoon of grated ginger
-?????? ? cup of water
-?????? 1 steak (roughly ?? thick)

Directions:

1. Combine everything in a shallow dish.
2. Tenderize the steak by beating the hell out of it, and marinate it for at least two hours.
3. Grill the steak over a charcoal fire.

Beer BratsBEER BRATS

We live for summer barbecues, guys, and these are essential. You?ll have your run-of-the-mill hot dogs and hamburgers, obviously, but spice it up with some delicious brats!

You?ll be drinking and eating anyway; just mix the two together.

Difficulty: Easy
Serves: 10
Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 20 minutes

Ingredients:
-?????? 4 cans of beer (Any kind. Experiment with different flavors.)
-?????? 1 large onion, diced
-?????? 10 bratwurst
-?????? 2 teaspoons of red pepper flakes
-?????? 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
-?????? 1 teaspoon of salt
-?????? ? teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions:
1. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium to high heat. When the grill is hot, lightly oil the grate. Remember this from our grilling article.
2. Combine the beer and onions in a large pot and bring it to a boil. Toss the brats in the beer, making sure they are completely submerged. Add the red pepper flakes, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Lower the heat to medium and cook another 10-12 minutes. Then remove the brats from the beer mixture and continue to cook the onions with the heat set to low.
3. Cook the brats on the preheated grill, turning once every 5-10 minutes.
4. Serve with the onions as a topping as a side.

Beer Can ChickenBEER CAN CHICKEN

This one?s a bit tricky, but definitely worth a try. Steam the inside of your chicken with spiced beer. It?ll be filled with juices delectable enough to make your mouth water.

Plus, doesn?t it look kind of fun?

Difficulty: Medium
Serves: 10
Prep: 1 hour
Cook: 1 hour, 30 minutes

Ingredients:
-?????? ? cup of dark brown sugar
-?????? ? cup of kosher salt
-?????? ? cup paprika
-?????? 4 tablespoons of fresh ground pepper
-?????? 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
-?????? 2 cups of cherry or hickory wood chips (available in the charcoal aisle)
-?????? 4 tablespoons of vegetable oil
-?????? 2 three to four pound whole chickens
-?????? 2 cans of beer (Again. Any kind. Experiment with different flavors.)

Directions:
1. Preheat an outdoor grill for indirect medium grilling. Soak the cherry wood chips in a bowl of water for at least 60 minutes. Put the soaked wood chips over the coals once the chicken is ready to be cooked.
2. Combine the brown sugar, salt, paprika, black pepper and cayenne into a dry?rub.
3. Clean out the chicken?s cavities and wash the chickens with cold water. Pat them dry with a paper towel and rub them each with two tablespoons of vegetable oil. Rub the dry rub spice mixture inside and outside of the chickens. Make sure to cover the entire bird, including the creases between the wings. Save roughly two teaspoons for the next part.
4. Take each can of beer and pour out (or drink) half of the can. Using a can opener, poke two extra holes in the top of the beer cans. Slowly pour one teaspoon of extra dry rub into each of the cans, being careful as they may foam up and out of the can.
5. Place the beer cans in the chicken?s cavities and use their legs to make a tripod. The beer and spices will steam up into the chicken, keeping it moist.
6. Make sure to use indirect grilling. In other words, don?t put the chicken directly over the coals or flames. They will burn. If they start to get too dark, loosely cover the top of the chickens with a piece of aluminum foil.
7. Chickens should be ready in an hour and half or when the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 180 F. Delicious juices will be running off the bottom of the chickens.
8. Don?t open the grill too often. Try opening the grill once after every hour and then every fifteen minutes afterwards. Don?t let too much heat escape.

Wardrobe Malfunctions: See This Week's Almost-Dangerous Outfits (PHOTOS)

This week, we gave you a handy guide on how to avoid wardrobe malfunctions in your daily lives -- but it looks like those who needed it the most forgot to read it. Vanessa Hudgens continued on her climb toward adulthood in a dress with a perilously high slit, and Diane Kruger showed off her good sideboob.

Which TV actress paired a black bra with a sheer white top? (Honestly, which one hasn't at this point?) All is revealed in the slideshow below!

  • January Jones

We get it, Jones -- you've got great legs.Consider showing 'em off in a mini next time; at least it'll look like you did it on purpose.

  • Diane Kruger

Sideboob to the extreme! We like the lace detailing on Kruger's "Host" premiere dress, but the panel itself looks a little too wide for comfort.

  • Vanessa Hudgens

We're getting major car wash vibes from Hudgens' skirt. A daring slit maximizes mobility -- and potential for malfunction.

  • Brenda Song

Hey, at least Song bothered to put a bra on at all while she went grocery shopping, right?

  • Jasmine Villegas

The teen singer opted for a very youthful frock -- with a very mature neckline. Combining sheer sleeves and bodice with an itsy-bitsy skirt can only end in overexposure.

  • Lily Aldridge

We guess when you're a model, you're allowed to make wild choices. But Aldridge's micro-mini in the middle of a cold front in New York seems a little misguided.

  • Alexandra Daddario

Daddario's dress's keyhole missed the boob window mark. We can't tell if we're disappointed or relieved.

  • 2013 Golden Globes Red Carpet Wardrobe Malfunctions

Diana Madison gets the lowdown on red carpet wardrobe malfunction from the stars at the 2013 Golden Globes red carpet. This hilarious interview features Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Sofia Vergara and interviews with Nene Leeks, Connie Britton, Thandie Newton, Sienna Miller, Bryan Cranston wearing man spanx and more.

ArtsBeatLA Interview with Artist and Creature Creator, Steve Wang ...

"The Creature Walks Among Us" 1-1 scale bust sculpture by Steve Wang (pictured).

?The Creature Walks Among Us? 1-1 scale bust sculpture by Steve Wang (pictured).

?I don?t like horror movies,? smiles Steve Wang, a self-taught artist and sculptor. It?s a startling confession from the famed creature creator, who envisioned and then brought to life the rapacious alien in 1987?s sci-fi horror flick Predator when he was barely 20 years old. For the past 27 years Wang has been designing weird and wonderful mythical creatures for Hollywood movies, TV shows and video game companies, calling on his skills as a sculptor and painter for physical (meaning practical) creations.

The imaginative guy responsible for the nightmarish monsters in Hellboy, Underworld 1 and 2, Predator, Batman Returns, Beetlejuice, Alien VS Predator: Requiem (to name a few) ? and various beasts for over a hundred other films and TV shows ? began with special effects makeup work back in the mid 80?s.

Mentored by the legendary three-time Oscar-winning special effects supervisor and makeup artist, the late Stan Winston, Wang learned about makeup, puppets and practical effects, but soon parlayed his own prodigious talents into creature design.

One of the three 'Tartutics' built by Wang and his team. Designed by Crash McCreery and art directed and supervised by Wang, for Spectral Motion Inc. "Lady In The Water" 2005.

One of the three ?Tartutics? built by Wang and his team. Designed by Crash McCreery and art directed and supervised by Wang, for Spectral Motion Inc. ?Lady In The Water? 2005.

?I always had a fascination with Halloween masks as a little kid,? recalls Wang, who moved with his family from Taiwan to the US when he was 8. Wang taught himself how to construct papier-m?ch? and latex masks. His hard work, creative enthusiasm and self-taught skills eventually led to a Hollywood career, doing something his kid self could only dream about ? creating monsters and creature suits for a living.

Tucked away in an industrial section of North Hollywood is Wang?s bustling workshop, Biomorph studios. When I visit on a Saturday afternoon there are four smiling assistants feverishly laboring on one of the shop?s current orders. ?In this business, we?re all clowns. If you come into my shop during the day, you?ll hear laughter all day long. Yes, we?re highly skilled artists and technicians, but we feel like Santa?s elves building high-tech toys. Even when it?s high-pressure, by the time it?s done we?ll have something amazing to look at and be proud of.?

Kerrigan Bronze at Blizzard - cu - e

?Kerrigan Bronze? at Blizzard Entertainment?s European headquarters, Versailles. Photo by Steve Wang.

These days most of the contracts Wang receives are from the world of video games. ?Currently we?re building a lot of realistic, life-sized statues of characters for video game companies, like Blizzard Entertainment, Riot Games and Red 5 Studios.? Statues such as Vikings, aliens and space warriors that stand 7 feet high. ?It?s a prestige thing. These companies are the biggest in the world, so they can afford to build the kind of stuff we make, because making a replica of a virtual character is a very expensive process.?

These statues go on display at huge International gaming conventions. ?It helps to generate excitement and promote publicity.? Die-hard fans and enthusiastic gamers are really passionate about these characters ? ones they?ve only encountered in a virtual world. ?So when they see them, in a realistic interpretation, they really freak out and the buzz goes nuts,? explains Wang.

Kerrigan Bronze at Blizzard - front - e

?Kerrigan Bronze? at Blizzard Entertainment?s European headquarters, Versailles. Photo by Steve Wang.

While his daily work grants him a degree of artistic expression, Wang occasionally gains a breathtaking commission that fully exploits his talents as a sculptor. Recently Wang created a full-sized cast bronze statue for the centerpiece of the courtyard at world-wide videogame company Blizzard Entertainment?s European headquarters. An exquisite statue of?Sarah Kerrigan, aka Queen of Blades and popular nemesis from StarCraft 2, now looms outside of Blizzard?s offices in Versailles, France. The ?Kerrigan Bronze,? with its exquisite patina, was completed in May last year. From design specs to photos to clay maquette to silicone mold to wax pieces to casting in bronze, the ambitious sculpture was almost a year in the making. While he won?t disclose the cost, Wang admits it was ?in the hundreds of thousands.? While her legions of fans may not agree if she?s alien, human or hybrid, the general consensus is, ?Kerrigan is sexy.?

U.N. set to crack down on North Korea financing, illicit cargo

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - In response to North Korea's third nuclear test, the U.N. Security Council is set to tighten financial restrictions on North Korea and crack down on Pyongyang's attempts to ship and receive banned cargo in violation of existing sanctions.

The measures are included in a draft sanctions resolution which the United States delivered to the council on Tuesday. The nine-page text was the product of three weeks of negotiations between the United States and China in response to North Korean's third nuclear test on February 12.

The 15-nation council plans to put it to a vote on Thursday at 10 a.m. EST, Russian U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, council president for March, said on Wednesday.

The resolution, which council diplomats say is intended to bring the North Korea sanctions regime more in line with tough U.N. measures in place against Iran, would have the council "expressing the gravest concern at the nuclear test conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea)."

But the success of the new measures, council diplomats say, will depend to a large extent on the willingness of North Korea's ally China to enforce them.

Council diplomats say the U.N. sanctions regime against Iran over its nuclear program, which Western powers and their allies say is intended for making weapons but Tehran says is peaceful, has been more effective than the restrictions on Pyongyang. That, they say, is why they used the Iran measures as a model.

The U.S.-drafted North Korea resolution, if adopted, would impose an obligation on the United Nations' 193 member states to block any financial services or monetary transfers that "could contribute to the DPRK's nuclear or ballistic missile programs."

It specifically mentions "bulk cash" transfers, which council diplomats say is one of Pyongyang's preferred methods of moving cash - often in briefcases carried by its diplomats.

The resolution would also impose a binding obligation on countries to "not provide public financial support for trade with the DPRK" if it could in any way support North Korea's nuclear or missile work.

The new resolution would further make inspections of suspicious land, sea or air cargo - including luxury goods intended for the North Korean elite - mandatory. Until now, such inspections have been voluntary.

Similar measures were included in resolution 1929, the council's last sanctions resolution against Iran. Western diplomats say those measures have proven to be surprisingly effective in complicating Iran's efforts to skirt sanctions and raise funds for its nuclear and missile programs.

U.N. BLACKLIST

Pyongyang was hit with U.N. sanctions for its 2006 and 2009 nuclear tests, measures that were subsequently tightened and expanded after several rocket launches. In addition to the luxury goods ban, there is an arms embargo on North Korea, and it is forbidden from trading in nuclear and missile technology.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice said on Tuesday that the new draft resolution "builds up, strengthens and significantly expands the scope of the strong U.N. sanctions already in place" on North Korea.

She said the new sanctions would target "the illicit activities of North Korean diplomatic personnel, North Korean banking relationships, (and) illicit transfers of bulk cash."

The resolution also calls for asset freezes and travel bans on the chief representative of the Korea Mining Development Trading Corporation (KOMID), North Korea's main arms dealer which has been under U.N. sanctions since 2009, and his deputy.

Also to be blacklisted is an official at Tanchon Commercial Bank. Tanchon was added to the U.N. blacklist in 2009 as the main North Korean financier for Pyongyang's arms trade.

Two North Korean entities will also be blacklisted - the Second Academy of Natural Sciences and the Korea Complex Equipment Import Corporation, a subsidiary of Korea Ryonbong General Corporation. Both are linked to North Korea's military, the draft resolution says.

The resolution specifies some of the luxury items North Korea is not allowed to import, such as yachts, racing cars, luxury automobiles and certain types of jewelry. This is intended to repair a loophole which allowed countries to decide for themselves what constitutes a luxury good.

Provisions of the new resolution encourage states to expel North Korean diplomats engaging in illicit activity on their territories.

Networking Strategy in 5 Steps | Business Networking Bulimba

//

What?s a Networking Strategy and Have you got one?

by Sigrid de Kaste

Do you go to breakfasts and lunches in order to meet new people?make new contacts and network?

I?m looking forward to International Women?s Day Breakfast?a fantastic opportunity to meet and make contact with heaps of people I don?t yet know!

My business, Stickybeak Marketing has reserved a table for 10?.oh, and by the way, if you?d like to come, contact me, there are 2 last seats available at the table!

There's a Seat waiting

Ring me now: 0414 626 729

?sorry, that?s not really what I want to talk about today?it?s the opportunity to meet and talk to new people for the purpose of networking, connecting and doing business with that I?d like to touch on

When I first started my business, Stickybeak Marketing, I went to networking events almost every week to build a list and reputation?which I?m sure, you are doing too!

Did I succeed? Oh yes, I?ve built a big list?but only after I applied what we all should do in every business: created a strategy!

Yes, a Networking Strategy!

It is easy to go out and visit networking groups, connect, take business cards and hand them out ?nilly willy? (can I say that here?)

You will gain a big list?BUT will it be a useful list, will it be networking time well spent?

Here is the thing, often people get confused and are not sure what a strategy is never mind putting one together for themselves!

A strategy is a solution to move you from were you are now to where you want to be..it is what you want to happen to achieve your preferred outcome and to make it easier for you to understand and put one together, here:

5 Steps to Your Networking Strategy

Going Up

1. Be clear on what makes you, your product or services, unique

It is a good idea to spend some time on this step as it will help you when out networking to capture the interest of others and also filter into all of your marketing

2. Write a 60 second speech

You will be amazed just how much you can fit into 60 sec provided you first write it down, then time it and adjust your words to those with the highest impact when spoken, after that practise your speech so it becomes natural

3. Decide on who you want as customers

Yes, your target market can be exactly who you want it to be! Get clarity on it that will make networking and growing your business easier!

4. Research Networking groups and opportunities within your reach

Knowing what?s availalbe and when for what cost is useful to be effective in your networking efforts and will help monitor success

5. Define who would be most able to connect you with your ideal customer

Think about what sort of industries might also be working with your ideal customer and can help you connect with them. Networking is taken to a whole new level when you look at the people in the room as potential connectors rather than customers?

There you go?put your networking strategy in place and notice how your successes increase as will your business!

Physicists on Higgs hunt: Nearly there but not yet

(AP) ? Physicists in Italy said Wednesday they are achingly close to concluding that what they found last year was the Higgs boson, the elusive "God particle." They need to eliminate one last remote possibility that it's something else.

The long theorized subatomic particle would explain why matter has mass and has been called a missing cornerstone of physics.

With new analyses, scientists are 99.6 percent certain they found the crucial Higgs boson. But they want to be 99.9 percent positive, said Pauline Gagnon, a physicist with the European Center for Nuclear Research.

Last July scientists with the world's largest atom smasher, the $10 billion Large Hadron Collider on the Swiss-French border, announced finding a particle they described as Higgs-like, but wouldn't say it was conclusively the particle. Now thousands of checks show them even closer.

"It looks more and more like a Higgs boson," said Gagnon after an update presented Wednesday at a conference in the Italian Alps.

Gagnon compared finding the Higgs to identifying a specific person. This looks, talks, and sings like a Higgs, but scientists want to make sure it dances like the Higgs before they shout "Eureka."

She said there is only one last thing the particle they found could also be: a graviton. That's another subatomic particle associated with gravitational fields, not mass.

By checking the spin of the particle, scientists will be able to tell if it is a Higgs boson, which is far more likely, or a graviton. If it has no internal spin, it's the Higgs boson; if it has a lot of spin it's a graviton.

Wednesday's presentation was by one team of researchers and another team will present more findings next week.

Physicist Sean Carroll of the California Institute of Technology, who isn't involved in the research, said scientists are just being careful, covering all bases.

Without the Higgs boson to explain why electrons and matter have mass, Carroll said, "there would be no atoms, there would be no chemistry, there would be no life, so that's kind of important."

Using Aweber To Track Your List Building Efforts | The Internet Dream

I know how it is to feel your list is growing at a snail?s pace. But once you start tracking, you actually start to see that progress and it all adds up over time! So, here is how to track your list building growth in Aweber ? thankfully it?s quick and easy to do.

How often should you do this??It?ll help?not to check too often ? if you do, you might feel things are going slowly. I recommend checking in once a month in normal situations, or more frequently if you?re making specific efforts to grow your list.

The Simplest Method: Note Down Your Monthly Totals

Something I?m trying, in an effort to show myself how far I?ve come, is to make a monthly note of how many subscribers I have. This is quick and easy to do. Just set aside a date each month (e.g. the first) to note down the current size of each of your list. You can quickly view the size of each of your lists from the Aweber dashboard:

totalnumbers

Remember,?slow and steady?does?win the race?(as cheesy as that sounds), so tracking in this way will remind you that things are moving upwards when you start to lose faith.

See More Details By Using Aweber?s Reporting Tools

The simplest way to track how your list is growing is to login to Aweber and view reports:

Where On Your Site Did Your Subscribers Come From?

It can be helpful to know where your subscribers signed up on your site so you know what works best. For example, I can see from my stats how many people signed up on my sidebar, vs. how many people signed up on my Subscribe page. Here?s how to do that?

Step 1:?Create a new webform, or select a current web form if you?ve already got one set up.

Advanced Aweber Tracking Options

Aweber has loads of reports available, and I recommend using these in time to check how things are going with your mailing efforts.

They can tell you how many people open your emails (you want a really high percentage on the first ?welcome? email, and you can use your stats to tweak it), how many people are unsubscribing, how many clicks you get, where your subscribers are from and much more.

I definitely recommend using these options in time to see how well certain subject lines perform, which topics your subscribers like best, or how your list building efforts are paying off after a certain method of getting new subscribers, but for now the tracking methods I listed above are a great way to get started.

Remember, tracking not only helps you to?improve?and streamline your list building efforts, it helps keep you motivated!

My question to you: Are you tracking your list building efforts? Are you making progress?

For six weeks from February 25 I?ll be taking part in the?Freaking Fantastic Blog and List Building Challenge, posting once a day from Monday to Friday. I?ll also be sending a business-building freebie to my email list every single week, so be sure to?subscribe?to get my best content!

Google tests same-day delivery, raising marketplace speculation

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Google Inc began testing a same-day delivery service with retailers in recent weeks, the latest move into Amazon.com Inc's e-commerce turf by the world's largest Internet search company.

Google Shopping Express helps local retail stores sell products online and have the items delivered to shoppers the same day, according to a person familiar with the test.

Google arranges for third parties, such as couriers, to pick the products up from local stores and deliver the items to shoppers. Neither the stores nor Google handle the deliveries, the person explained on condition of anonymity because the service is still in the early development stage.

Tom Fallows, a Google product management director with over a decade of e-commerce experience, is running Google Shopping Express. The test is focused on the San Francisco Bay Area and has been going for at least a month, the person added.

Google has not yet decided how to charge for the service. It is considering an annual subscription, similar to Amazon, which charges $79 a year for free two-day delivery of many items purchased on Amazon.com. However, Google may also charge a small fee each time a shopper orders through the service, the person said.

Google Shopping Express is the latest sign that the company is expanding from its online search roots into e-commerce. It also suggests that Google may be building an online marketplace that connects merchants and consumers, a business model that has made Amazon and eBay Inc successful in the United States.

"Google needs to become a marketplace," said Scot Wingo, chief executive of ChannelAdvisor, which helps merchants sell more online. "This is another step." EBay is an investor in ChannelAdvisor.

Amazon's marketplace business, which lets other merchants sell through its website, has grown rapidly in recent years and has been a big driver of Amazon's revenue and profit growth.

This success has encouraged more shoppers to search for products on Amazon.com, rather than going to Google - a potential threat to Google's search dominance online.

In the past, consumers would search for an item on Google.com, an Amazon sponsored link would pop up, the shopper would click through, Google would get paid for the ad and Amazon got the sale.

"Everyone was happy. At least they used to be," said Tom Allason, founder of Shutl, a startup that provides same-day delivery for retailers' online orders. "Today Google needs a new play because increasingly consumers are cutting out Google and going direct to Amazon for their product search."

Last year, Google changed its free product search offering to a paid service called Product Listing Ads, a move aimed at generating more revenue and profit from e-commerce.

In February, Google acquired Channel Intelligence, a $125 million deal that brought the search giant lots of data on e-commerce transactions. Longer-term, that could help Google build a product catalog, a crucial ingredient for an online marketplace that would compete with Amazon and eBay, according to Wingo.

"We view Google Shopping Express as another step in the evolution of Google Shopping and potential move to a full-blown marketplace," Shawn Milne, an analyst at Janney Montgomery Scott, wrote in a note to investors on Tuesday.

Amazon has an advantage because it already has a network of large distribution warehouses, known as fulfillment centers, to deliver goods sold through its online marketplace, according to Wingo.

Google is likely taking a different approach, building a network of loosely affiliated local retail stores that, in effect, act like small fulfillment centers, Wingo explained.

EBay took a similar approach when it acquired Milo in late 2010. Milo let shoppers search for products available to buy in retail stores nearby.

The business formed the foundation of eBay's Local Shopping business and is a crucial part of eBay Now, a same-day delivery service that the company began testing in San Francisco and New York last year.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? Appearing in public for the first time since she was acquitted of murder, Casey Anthony revealed that she doesn't have a job or a car, lives with friends and relies on unsolicited gift cards and cash to get by.

"I guess you could say I'm living free off the kindness" of others, Anthony said at a bankruptcy hearing in Tampa.

Anthony, 26, was acquitted of murder in July 2011 in the death of her daughter, Caylee. She was released from jail several days later and disappeared from the spotlight. At the time, she had been vilified online and elsewhere, and her attorneys said threats had been made against her.

On Monday, dressed in a white short-sleeve top, a black skirt and black heels, she emerged from a sport utility vehicle and several dozen photographers and reporters swarmed her. When she left the courthouse, about 10 U.S. Homeland Security officers stood on the steps with guns.

During the 50-minute long hearing, she consulted with her team of attorneys frequently. When she spoke, it was in a calm, matter-of-fact voice, and she mostly answered "yes sir" or "no sir" to the trustee's questions.

Anthony said all of the "unsolicited" money, gift cards and donations were sent to her attorneys, who then pass them along to her. She added that her criminal attorney, Jose Baez, has given her about $3,400 in cash "to help with my living expenses."

She refused to disclose who pays for her cell phone, with one of her attorneys saying that it was due to "safety and security concerns."

Anthony filed for bankruptcy in January, claiming about $1,000 in assets and $792,000 in liabilities.

Only one creditor showed up at the hearing: R. Scott Shuker, who is a lawyer for Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez.

Fernandez-Gonzalez said her reputation was damaged by Anthony telling detectives that a baby sitter by the same name kidnapped Caylee. The detectives were investigating the 2008 disappearance of Caylee, who found dead several months later.

Anthony's attorney said details offered by Anthony did not match Fernandez-Gonzalez and clearly showed Anthony wasn't talking about her.

Shuker grilled Anthony repeatedly on whether she has been approached to tell her story for a movie, book or TV deal. Anthony insisted that she has not spoken to any agent or media organization.

Shuker said afterward that he questioned whether she was telling the truth.

"From the smell test, it didn't smell right," he said. "Any time you see an attorney in what's supposed to be a no asset case being that active, more to the point, you had five attorneys there, allegedly none of them being paid, that's odd."

Shuker said that his client suffers damages "to this day" because of her alleged link to the case.

Anthony's listed debts include $500,000 for attorney fees and costs for Baez, her criminal defense lawyer during the trial; $145,660 for the Orange County Sheriff's office for investigative fees and costs; $68,540 for the Internal Revenue Service for taxes, interest and penalties; and $61,505 for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for court costs.

Anthony had not been seen in public since she left an Orange County jail on July 16, 2011, 12 days after she was acquitted of murdering Caylee but convicted of lying to investigators and sentenced to four years in jail. With credit for the nearly three years she spent in jail since August 2008 and good behavior, she had to serve only several days when she was sentenced July 7.

During Monday's hearing, she said that in 2008 she transferred her interest in about a dozen photos to her criminal attorney, and that he sold those photos to ABC for $200,000. The money helped pay for her defense, she said.

Anthony added that she "was asked to participate in" photos and licensed those photos to Baez. She didn't say what those photos were of, or where they eventually ended up ? other than that she "posed" for them. She said she thinks Baez eventually sold, or planned to sell, those photos.

HelloFlo Launches To Be A Little Fish In The Big Pond Of Tampon Subscription Services

Screen Shot 2013-03-04 at 10.12.34 AMAunt Flo got you down? The Crimson Tide wearing you out? Well, the good news is that you no longer have to make that awful run to the drug store for tampons and pads, and better yet, you don't need to make your boyfriend do it, either. A new service called HelloFlo has just launched, which offers a subscription service for feminine hygiene products. To be clear, HelloFlo isn't the first company to take advantage of the subscription model, and it isn't even the first to offer subscription-based tampons. Le Parcel launched around Christmas last year to offer a similar product.

Is baby still breathing? Is mom's obsession normal?

Mar. 4, 2013 ? A new mother may constantly worry and check to see if her baby is still breathing. Or she may fret about germs, obsessing whether she's properly sterilized the bottles, then wash and rewash them.

A new Northwestern Medicine? study found that women who have recently given birth have a much higher rate of obsessive-compulsive symptoms than the general population.

The study found 11 percent of women at two weeks and six months postpartum experience significant obsessive-compulsive symptoms compared to 2 to 3 percent in the general population. This is the first large-scale longitudinal study of obsessive-compulsive symptoms in the postpartum period.

These symptoms, including fear of injuring the baby and worry about germs, are usually temporary and could result from hormonal changes or be an adaptive response to caring for a new baby, researchers said. But if the compulsions interfere with a mother's functioning, they may indicate a psychological disorder.

"It may be that certain kinds of obsessions and compulsions are adaptive and appropriate for a new parent, for example those about cleanliness and hygiene," said study senior author Dana Gossett, M.D., chief and assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. "But when it interferes with normal day-to-day functioning and appropriate care for the baby and parent, it becomes maladaptive and pathologic."

The study will be published the March/April issue of The Journal of Reproductive Medicine.

Gossett and colleagues' recollections of their own obsessive and upsetting thoughts after giving birth led them to investigate if the experience was universal.

Obsessions are unwanted and repeated thoughts or images that create anxiety.

"A compulsion is a response to those obsessive thoughts, a ritualistic behavior that temporary allays the anxiety but can't rationally prevent the obsession from occurring," explained Emily Miller, M.D., lead study author and a clinical fellow in maternal fetal medicine at Feinberg.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) may be triggered by stress, research shows. Thus, stressful situations, such as pregnancy and the postpartum period, may exacerbate or predispose women to OCD.

The most prevalent thoughts women reported in the study were concern about dirt or germs followed by compulsions to check that they did not "make a mistake," Miller said. New mothers may check and recheck baby monitors are working, the baby's crib side is properly latched or bottles are properly sterilized, for example.

Some women in the study reported intrusive thoughts that they would harm the baby. "That can be emotionally painful," Miller said. "You don't intend to harm the baby, but you're fearful that you will."

For postpartum women with obsessive-compulsive symptoms who otherwise are functioning normally, Gossett said, "It would be reassuring to hear that their thoughts and behaviors are very common and should pass."

Gossett recalled that after she gave birth to her first child, she routinely worried about falling down the stairs with her baby or the baby would fall out of bed. "It comes into your mind unbidden and it's frightening," she said.

Researchers now need to determine what behavior is normal and what's pathologic, Gossett said.

The women in the study were recruited during their delivery hospitalization at Northwestern Memorial and completed screening tests for anxiety, depression and OCD two weeks and six months after going home. A total of 461 women completed the surveys at two weeks and 329 of the original group completed them at six months. The women's symptoms were self-reported and they did not receive a clinical diagnosis by a psychologist.

About 50 percent of the women reported an improvement in their symptoms by six months, but at that time point new women developed symptoms whom had not experienced them at two weeks.

"If those symptoms are developing much later after delivery, they are less likely to be hormonal or adaptive," Gossett said. The risk for psychological disorders persists for up to a year after delivery, she noted.

About 70 percent of the women who screened positive for obsessive-compulsive symptoms also screened positive for depression. That overlap and the unique subset of obsessions and compulsions could indicate postpartum OCD represents a distinct postpartum mental illness that is not well classified, Miller said.

"There is some debate as to whether postpartum depression is simply a major depressive episode that happens after birth or its own disease with its own features," Miller said. "Our study supports the idea that it may be its own disease with more of the anxiety and obsessive-compulsive symptoms than would be typical for a major depressive episode."

Chad claims to have killed feared al-Qaida fighter

Ho / AFP - Getty Images

Abdelhamid Abou Zeid is said to have been killed in Mali by soldiers from Chad. He is seen in this image released on Dec. 25, 2012, by Sahara Media.

By Angela Charlton and Dany Padire, The Associated Press

N'DJAMENA, Chad --?Chadian President Idriss Deby announced Friday that Chadian troops fighting to dislodge an al-Qaida affiliate in northern Mali killed one of the group's leading commanders, Abou Zeid.

The death of the Algerian warlord, a feared radical leader of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb behind the kidnapping of several Westerners, could not immediately be verified. His death would be a big blow to his group and its growing influence in North and West Africa.

Officials in Mali and in France, which is leading an international military intervention in Mali against Islamic extremists linked to AQIM, could not confirm the death. The White House had no immediate reaction to the announcement. The U.S. has offered drones and intelligence help to the French-led operation.

The Chadian president's spokesman said that Deby announced the death of Abou Zeid during a ceremony Friday for Chadian soldiers killed in fighting in Mali.

Deby said, "It was our soldiers who killed two big Islamist chiefs in northern Mali," including Abou Zeid, according to the spokesman.

The spokesman insisted on anonymity because he was not authorized to speak ahead of an announcement on state television on the matter. It was unclear when it was expected, and the spokesman gave no further details.

Hostages killed
Abdelhamid Abou Zeid, who led one of the most violent brigades of al-Qaida's North African franchise and helped lead the extremist takeover of northern Mali, was thought to be 47 years old.

He was a pillar of the southern realm of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, or AQIM, responsible for the death of at least two European hostages.

He was believed to be holding four French nationals kidnapped two years ago at a uranium mine in Niger. The fate of those hostages, working for French company Areva, was unclear Friday night.

Abou Zeid held a Frenchman released in February 2010, and another who was executed that July. He's also been linked to the execution of a British hostage in 2009.

The French military moved into Mali on Jan. 11 to push back militants linked to Abou Zeid and other extremist groups who had imposed harsh Islamic rule in the vast country and who were seen as an international terrorist threat.

The extremists took control over northern Mali in a power vacuum after a coup last year, and had started moving toward the capital.

France is trying to rally other African troops to help in the military campaign, since Mali's military is weak and poor. Chadian troops have offered the most robust reinforcement.

For the past 10 days, French military, along with Chadian forces, have been locked in a weeklong battle against extremists in the Adrar des Ifoghas mountains of northern Mali that has left scores dead.

The little emir
After the militants took over Mali's north, Abou Zeid took control of the fabled city of Timbuktu, meting out justice according to his extremist view of Islamic law until ousted by French and Malian forces..

Abou Zeid, a nom de guerre, was a powerful and shadowy figure, and mystery surrounds his real name.

He had another alias, Mosab Abdelouadoud, and nicknames, the emir of the south and the little emir, due to his diminutive size.

He was viewed as a disciplined radical with close ties to the overall AQIM boss, Abdelmalek Droukdel, who oversees operations from his post in northern Algeria.

Abou Zeid fought with a succession of Islamist insurgency movements trying to topple the Algerian state since 1992.

He reportedly joined the brutal, and now defunct, Armed Islamic Group that massacred whole villages in northern Algeria, then joined the Salafist Group for Call and Combat that morphed into al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb in 2006.

An Algerian court tried him in absentia in January 2012, convicting him of belonging to an international terrorist group and sentencing him to life in prison.

Abou Zeid was an arch rival of Moktar Belmoktar, known as "the one-eyed sheik" after he lost an eye in combat in Afghanistan.

Belmoktar's profile soared after a mid-January attack on a huge Algerian gas plant and a mass hostage-taking which left 37 hostages and 29 attackers dead.?

Las Vegas Sands says "likely" violated U.S. corruption act

(Reuters) - Las Vegas Sands Corp said it "likely" violated the federal Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which outlaws the bribery of foreign officials, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday.

The filing marks the first disclosure by the casino operator, controlled by founder and billionaire Republican donor Sheldon Adelson, that is was under investigation.

The SEC subpoenaed company documents in February 2011 relating to its compliance with the antibribery act while the U.S. Department of Justice also advised Sands it was conducting an investigation, the company said in its annual report filing.

"There were likely violations of the books and records and internal controls provisions of the FCPA," the company said.

Sands spokesman Ron Reese said on Saturday he had no additional comment beyond the SEC filing.

Reuters reported exclusively in August that Sands allowed a man identified by the U.S. Senate as an organized crime figure to move a $100,000 gambling credit from a Las Vegas casino to one of its Macau casinos.

The company's findings are related to deals in mainland China led by executives no longer employed at Sands, the Wall Street Journal reported, sourcing a person familiar with the matter.

Sands, in the filing, said the issue would have no material impact on the company's financial records and that it would not need to restate any past financial statements.

Activist Post: Gold and Silver Approved as Legal Tender by Arizona ...

Activist Post

Arizona may become the second state, after Utah, to recognize gold and silver as legal tender authorized for payments of debts and taxes.

The Arizona Senate voted Thursday to approve SB 1439 which allows businesses and the state government to accept payments in gold or silver.

The Legal Tender bill specifies that?legal tender in Arizona consists of all of the following:

1. Legal Tender authorized by Congress.?
2. Specie (containing gold or silver) coin issued at any time by the U.S. government.?
3. Any other specie that a court of competent jurisdiction rules by a final, unappealable order to be within the scope of state authority to make legal tender.
Currently all debts and taxes in Arizona and the rest of the United States are either paid with Federal Reserve Notes (dollars) which were authorized as legal tender by Congress, or with coins issued by the U.S. Treasury -- very few of which have gold or silver in them.
Although Article 1, Section 10 of the United States Constitution states that no state shall coin money; the same section stipulates that no state shall make anything but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts. In that regard the sponsors of bill feel that it will simply respect the use of gold and silver as per the Constitution without "coining" its own money.

The law also exempts taxing the exchange of gold and silver into any other currency, and states that gold and silver as legal tender would not be "subject to tax or regulation as property other than money."

S.B. 1439 is legislation modeled after Utah's which was the first to pass and be signed into law. Several other states have introduced similar measures motivated by the dollar instability caused by the Federal Reserve's recent monetary policies.

Gold and silver have historically held their value compared to unstable dollars. The value of the U.S. dollar has plummeted 98% against gold in the last 100 years since the Federal Reserve took over as the U.S. central bank in 1913.

As the Federal Reserve continues debase the currency through persistent quantitative easing, many more states may be looking to cushion themselves against further declines by legalizing competing currencies like gold and silver in the near future.

Arizona's S.B. 1439 must still pass in the State House and be signed by Governor Jan Brewer before becoming law.
