GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com)?? A 35-year-old man reportedly wanted on multiple charges barricaded himself in a Garden Grove home Thursday afternoon, prompting officials to lock down a nearby elementary school.
Cordell Dunsmore was wanted on a warrant issued in Pima County, Ariz., for fraud and weapons charges, according to Chief Inspector Tom Hession of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Marshals had tracked down Dunsmore to a home on the 13400 block of Wilson Steet.
Dunsmore ?has a criminal history that makes us more cautious than normal,? said Hession, adding ?he has a weapons history.?
The Garden Grove Police Department sent a SWAT team at 1 p.m. when Dunsmore refused to come out of the residence.
Multiple people live in the home and two were allowed to leave during the police standoff, Hession said. Another resident remained inside but officials don?t believe that person was being held hostage.
The standoff prompted authorities to lock down Meairs Elementary School, located at 8441 Trask Avenue. Most of the students had already been released at 12:30 p.m. because of parent-teacher conferences, according to Trish Montgomery of the Westminster School District. About 40 to 50 students were still in the building in an after-school program.
Shortly after 6 p.m., Dunsmore reportedly surrendered to police without incident and was arrested.
