Selling Direct Marketing: 7 Steps to Success | Digital Printing Hot Spot

Written by Bill Michael
eMarketing Manager, Xerox Corporation

Direct marketing provides enormous opportunities and potential for profitability, but there are challenges and considerations to take into account. We recently discussed ways to successfully implement direct marketing services for your customers, emphasizing the importance of data and the need to understand the way your customer?s end-users think.

Another critical aspect of venturing into direct marketing is having a sales team in place capable of selling these services.

Sales Team working with Client

During our Direct Marketing Thought Leadership Workshop, Katie Dunn, President and Founder of Digital Innovations Group, emphasized that becoming a strategic partner for your clients means more than just adding services and offerings. According to Katie, successfully selling direct marketing services is dependent upon 7 steps.

1. Understand the Market
Consumers of today receive information through many channels, including print, mail, email, social media, the web and mobile. Consumers are always on. It comes down to identifying which channel and how to get the right message in front of the right person at the right time. Easy stuff, right?

2. Understand what Prospects Need
It?s clear that targeted communications can help your customers of tomorrow better reach their end-users and drive revenue. So what do these prospects need in order to be swayed to your services? Like any organization, they need results! They need to know what your company can do for them. Results come in many forms, including increased market share, enhanced profitability, and capitalizing on new opportunities and markets.

In their book What Sticks, Rex Briggs and Greg Stuart note that ?19% of marketing fails outright and 67% could achieve significant improvement that would require no additional spending.? So what needs to change? This is where your team can jump in. Significant results can be driven through messaging, the marketing mix and existence of supporting qualification processes.

3. Build a Plan
A clear business plan should help lead your sales staff by include goals, metrics, measurement criteria and processes. It should bring to life the services your company has to offer. These expectations and organization will help drive the sales team.

4. Use the Right Sales Process
Today?s purchasing decisions are more complicated than ever before. In the past 5 years, the average sales cycle has grown 22% longer and involves a greater number of decision makers than ever before. Today?s customers put significant value on a salesperson who makes them think outside the box, brings new ideas to the table, and finds creative and innovative ways to help their business.

5. Call the Right People
Your sales team should be reaching out to senior decision makers. These are the big idea people ? not the folks actually executing the ideas. These individuals lead organizations, have demanding schedules and want results. Knowing what gets their attention is critical to the success of your sales team.

Senior decision makers crave information that they can?t get anywhere else such as trends, statistics and best practices. Having a deep understanding of their company, their competitors and the marketplace is critical to capturing their attention. Bringing innovative ideas and proposals to the table that can help their company become more competitive will surely have them listening with anticipation.

6. Say the Right things
A sales team trained to say the right things can really bring everything together. Relevancy is paramount. Quantitative results of a real-life example in a comparable industry can speak volumes (even if the success was a result of work done by a company other than your own). A good template to follow when reaching out to a potential prospect is to acknowledge an industry-specific pain-point (for example ? gaining donor participation for non-profits), showcasing how a direct marketing campaign drove results (quantitative is always better), and inviting the prospect to learn more about how your company can help this prospect through your services.

7. Provide the Right Support
Finally, equipping your sales team with the necessary support will dictate their level of success. You can help by offering information on vertical markets and horizontal offerings, defining value propositions, as well as the availability of presentations with talking points. Regular best practice sharing and coaching sessions can also help improve the effectiveness of your sales team.

Do you have a better understanding of where the opportunities lay with respect to direct marketing services and your sales team? Did this create some thought-starters for you to start implementing today?

10 Celebrities Getting College Degrees This Month

Graduation is upon us, and you know what that means: lots of celebrities getting degrees they didn't earn! Well, didn't earn the conventional way, anyhow. This spring, Ben Affleck, Jimmy Kimmel and Michael Strahan are among the stars who collected PhDs honoring their professional achievements (and gave undergrads a thrill with their commencement speeches).

Rum Drinks: Cocktail Recipes We'll Make All Summer (PHOTOS)

You guys feel that? It got hot outside, seemingly in the blink of an eye. As the temperature climbs past "oh, gin is so refreshing" levels, our thoughts always turn to rum drinks. Is rum the unofficial spirit of the summertime? Just maybe.

With summery rum cocktails, we tend to be a little more inclined toward sweetness than with other seasonal cocktails. There's just something about tropical fruit and a touch of sugar that makes rum cocktail recipes work. One of our favorite rum cocktails on earth is the Painkiller, first invented at the Soggy Dollar Bar in the British Virgin Islands. This video will show you how to make an awesome Painkiller, but we are so sorry for the music and how sexy they tried to make this bartender for some reason. Maybe turn your volume all the way down, but don't miss the most important part -- the Painkiller has to have fresh nutmeg grated on top. Don't even bother with it otherwise. We're serious.

See what we mean? A quick blend of fruit juices, a not-completely-moderate amount of rum, fresh nutmeg. Sexy bartender optional. We pulled together a few of our other favorite rum cocktail recipes for you guys to make use of all summer long, from the tart and perfect Hemingway Daiquiri to the totally insane Hellfire (there's beer and hot sauce in it, guys). Happy summer, everyone!

Scientist at Work Blog: Calls of the Forest

Mary E. Blair is a postdoctoral researcher in the American Museum of Natural History?s Center for Biodiversity and Conservation, where she coordinates the Enhancing Diversity in Conservation Science Initiative.

April 8, 2013

At 5:30 a.m., after being out from about 1 a.m. surveying for slow lorises in the dark, I was woken up by an eerie, enchanting duet. I realized through bleary eyes and ears that this sound was not my alarm, but rather a pair of serenading gibbons. Gibbons are large primates (or more specifically, small apes) that live in male-female pairs. They sing a duet together every morning, and sometimes after it rains, to let other gibbons know where they are. Luckily for you, I recorded it. It is very hard to sleep with this going on, and actually, I would argue that the Vietnamese forest can be louder than New York City in the morning.

Later that day, after saying goodbye to the gibbons, we left our first slow loris survey site within the confines of Bu Gia Map National Park, and headed back to the park headquarters. We settled in to the official guesthouse ? our home base for the last surveys of the trip.

We picked this location for more than just the accommodations. It allows us to survey the habitats along the edge of the park, including cashew tree plantations, mixed bamboo and secondary forest, and regenerating secondary forest.

Slow lorises can be found in a variety of ?edge? or human-modified habitats including bamboo forest, agroforest, and tree plantations ? not just ?pristine? forest. For slow lorises, the ability to find food in a variety of habitats could be a promising sign for their long-term survival; forested habitat continues to be lost to road and dam construction, mining and agricultural expansion, not only in Vietnam but across Southeast Asia. However, being able to survive close to civilization means it is easier for people to hunt them for use in traditional medicines and to capture them as pets.

At the beginning of my journey to Vietnam, I felt elated after spotting my first slow loris in the dark. They are so rare and shy, I thought I might not even see one. But, in fact, our teams have spotted several in the nightly depths of the Vietnamese forest.

As the trip continued, I learned so much more about the complex reasons lorises are threatened with extinction, and why it is so challenging to find out how many are left. This makes of the matter of how to address the threats to their survival all the harder.

I strongly believe that continued integration of museum-based work and fieldwork will greatly help our understanding of the biology of this endangered group of animals, and others that are also rare and difficult to find in the field. But equally important will be multidisciplinary research combining social and natural science to investigate the complexities of the wildlife trade and different cultural values related to slow lorises in Vietnam and throughout Southeast Asia. I am so pleased that during this trip, my first, our team was able to collect some key preliminary information on the population status and cultural uses of slow lorises across Vietnam. Back in New York, I will use this information to design future research, and I can?t wait to come back soon to continue searching for the enigmatic culi (that means loris in Vietnamese).

If you are now hooked on slow lorises and want to know more about what other intrepid loris explorers are doing, visit the Web site of my colleague Dr. Anna Nekaris for lots of useful information. And of course you can check out our center?s Web site or follow me on Twitter (@marye_blair) to hear more about my trips back to Vietnam to search for more lorises.

IDC report: Samsung sold more phones than Nokia in Finland during Q1 2013

IDC report Samsung sold more phones than Nokia in its Finnish homeland during Q1 2013

Nokia might have been bested by Samsung's global phone shipments for a while, but there was always one vanguard -- the Finnish public, who have patriotically stood by (and bought up) Nokia smartphones over the last few difficult years. It looks like rivals have very much broken through, however, with IDC reporting that Samsung was responsible for the highest number of phone sales in the last quarter, claiming 36 percent against Nokia's 33 percent market share. Third place was Apple, trailing with 14 percent, while other manufacturers soaked up the remaining 16 percent. According to Digitoday, the change was due to the continuing shift to smartphones, one that shows no signs of slowing down.

Organic polymers show sunny potential: Groundwork laid for block copolymer solar cells

May 29, 2013 ? A new version of solar cells created by laboratories at Rice and Pennsylvania State universities could open the door to research on a new class of solar energy devices.

The photovoltaic devices created in a project led by Rice chemical engineer Rafael Verduzco and Penn State chemical engineer Enrique Gomez are based on block copolymers, self-assembling organic materials that arrange themselves into distinct layers. They easily outperform other cells with polymer compounds as active elements.

The discovery is detailed online in the American Chemical Society journal Nano Letters.

While commercial, silicon-based solar cells turn about 20 percent of sunlight into electricity and experimental units top 25 percent, there's been an undercurrent of research into polymer-based cells that could greatly reduce the cost of solar energy, Verduzco said. The Rice/Penn State cells reach about 3 percent efficiency, but that's surprisingly better than other labs have achieved using polymer compounds.

"You need two components in a solar cell: one to carry (negative) electrons, the other to carry positive charges," Verduzco said. The imbalance between the two prompted by the input of energy -- sunlight -- creates useful current.

Since the mid-1980s, researchers have experimented with stacking or mixing polymer components with limited success, Verduzco said. Later polymer/fullerene mixtures topped 10 percent efficiency, but the fullerenes -- in this case, enhanced C-60 buckyballs -- are difficult to work with, he said.

The Rice lab discovered a block copolymer -- P3HT-b-PFTBT -- that separates into bands that are about 16 nanometers wide. More interesting to the researchers was the polymers' natural tendency to form bands perpendicular to the glass. The copolymer was created in the presence of a glass/indium tin oxide (ITO) top layer at a modest 165 degrees Celsius.

With a layer of aluminum on the other side of the device constructed by the Penn State team, the polymer bands stretched from the top to bottom electrodes and provided a clear path for electrons to flow.

"On paper, block copolymers are excellent candidates for organic solar cells, but no one has been able to get very good photovoltaic performance using block copolymers," Verduzco said. "We didn't give up on the idea of block copolymers because there's really only been a handful of these types of solar cells previously tested. We thought getting good performance using block copolymers was possible if we designed the right materials and fabricated the solar cells under the right conditions."

Mysteries remain, he said. "It's not clear why the copolymer organizes itself perpendicular to the electrodes," he said. "Our hypothesis is that both polymers want to be in contact with the ITO-coated glass. We think that forces this orientation, though we haven't proven it yet."

He said the researchers want to experiment with other block copolymers and learn to control their structures to increase the solar cell's ability to capture photons and turn them into electricity. Once they have achieved higher performance from the cells, the team will look at long-term use.

"We'll focus on performance first, because if we can't get it high enough, there's no reason to address some of the other challenges like stability," Verduzco said. Encapsulating a solar cell to keep air and water from degrading it is easy, he said, but protecting it from ultraviolet degradation over time is hard. "You have to expose it to sunlight. That you can't avoid."

Co-authors of the paper are Rice graduate students Yen-Hao Lin and Kendall Smith; Penn State graduate student Changhe Guo and undergraduate Matthew Witman; Argonne National Laboratory researcher Joseph Strzalka; Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory postdoctoral researcher Cheng Wang and staff scientist Alexander Hexemer; and Enrique Gomez, an assistant professor in the Penn State Department of Chemical Engineering. Verduzco is an assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering.

The National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, the Welch Foundation, the Shell Center for Sustainability and the Louis and Peaches Owen Family Foundation supported the research.

Information Technology|Certification Intelligence | Career ...

Information technology news and technical data pertaining to certification intelligence for exam education will be the primary purpose of this report. Many people don?t know the distinction between computer training and certification exam training. I would like to see every one what the differences are. Computer training is class room knowledge with scheduled programs or on line training concerning the job field regarding information technology. I want to explain! You might want to become Server Administrator. To start with you will need some knowledge somewhere to be able to be proficient in the topic and probably purchase a 2 or 4-year level or receive some online education with a professional teacher. You may just want to have a few programs and receive a certificate in this field. This would be considered computer education.

It certification intelligence on exam education is the thing you need in order to be fully prepared to go your certification exam. After computer training you may have a degree or a document but you still don?t have a certification that is recognized by Microsoft, CIW and CompTia or another. If you?ve computer education that qualifies you to be a Server Administrator then you?ll need to get licensed in Microsoft, CIW or CISCO. Certification exam education specializes in preparing you to go your certification exam. An IT Certification exam is unlike any other exam that you have had in school or school. There are two extremely important points to consider when planning for a certification exam. They?re the proper study strategy and having relevant material that concerns the real test that is up to date with all the economy.

You will find just a couple of sites on the web offering Certification examination instruction. The reason why I wrote this article is to give information and details about the most effective resources on certification examination instruction. There are several students of information technology looking this information simply because they are seriously interested in driving their accreditation test on the 1st take to. This article isn?t about marketing but about helping those who find themselves not informed about Certification assessment instruction.

Still another reason for this short article is education concerning information technology certification. There are several universities and on line training about information technology that?ll prepare you for a particular subject or area but there are but a number of areas where you can find information technology accreditation intelligence on exam training.

Say you desire to become a Technician and you study at a school or receive online instruction so that you?re proficient in that area and receive a degree or certificate in that area but you still are not certified until you have a certification test. Despite graduation you will have to plan an certification exam with prometric or pearsonvue as a way to be certified in the field that you wish.

How many places do you know where you can get training on how to complete your information technology certification test. Assessment training is not exactly like computer training. You will need knowledge of how to study on your certification exam and to understand the proper study methods because an IT exam is not the same as the tests in college. You will also need to find out where to get updated material about your certification exam because if you?re learning material that is outdated then you will not pass your certification exam. Certification exam training is essential if you intend on passing your certification exam the first time so you can avoid 2nd and 3rd exam fees.

Some people may already be focusing on the job in the profession they wish, such as a Server Administrator, Desktop Support Technician or a PC Repair Technician. They may have had prior training before work but have never acquired a certification. They probably know their work and are very proficient in their work and field but need a certification because their employer requires it. They do not need any computer instruction. They only need Certification exam education so they can pass their certification exam. I hope you get the picture now. Looking for a great source then visit: billnaugle.com

Fears grow of an arms race in Syria

BRUSSELS (AP) ? Fears grew of a foreign-fed arms race in Syria on Tuesday as European Union countries decided they could provide weapons to the rebels and Russia disclosed that it has signed a contract to provide Syria with sophisticated anti-aircraft missiles.

Either development would significantly raise the firepower in the two-year civil war has already killed more than 70,000 people and sent hundreds of thousands fleeing the country, just as the key countries prepare for a major peace conference in Geneva that had been described as the best chance yet to end the bloodshed.

Russian officials criticized the EU decision Monday night to allow their arms embargo against Syria to expire, freeing its member countries to provide weapons for the outgunned rebels. Russia, which has been a strong supporter of the Syrian government, said the British- and French-driven decision undermined peace efforts.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Tuesday that Russia has signed a contract with the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad to provide it with state-of-the-art S-300 air defense missiles, which he said were important to prevent foreign intervention in the country. Ryabkov would not say whether Russia has shipped any of the missiles to Syria yet.

Ryabkov said Russia understands the concerns about providing such weapons to Syria, but believes that may "help restrain some hot-heads considering a scenario to give an international dimension to this conflict."

EU diplomats have said Britain and France are considering providing equipment to the rebels, and Syrian neighbors Turkey and Lebanon risk being drawn into the conflict.

Ryabkov called the EU move to end its arms embargo "a manifestation of double standards" that will hurt the prospects for the Geneva talks, which are expected to happen in June.

In Damascus, a Syrian lawmaker on Tuesday also criticized the EU decision, saying that efforts to arm the rebels will discourage the opposition from seeking a peaceful solution to the conflict. The comments by Essam Khalil, a member of the parliament for the ruling Baath Party, were the first by a Syrian official.

U.S. Sen. John McCain, meanwhile, made an unannounced visit to rebel forces in Syria, putting more pressure on Assad to seek a negotiated settlement.

Bell intros Fibe TV Wireless Receiver, takes Canadians multi-room for $199

Bell launches Fibe TV wireless receivers

Some Canadians can get multi-room TV through their providers, but a truly wire-free option has never been on the table -- no doubt a disappointment for backyard viewing parties. Bell is filling that void today with what it says is the first carrier-supplied wireless TV package in Canada. Fibe TV subscribers can now pick up as many as five Wireless Receivers (really, Motorola VIP2502 boxes) to extend their HD viewing and DVR control to the whole home without cables. It sounds easy; the real challenge, we figure, will be getting a Wireless Receiver in the first place. Customers have to live in Montreal, Quebec City or Toronto for Fibe TV to even be an option, while each Wireless Receiver costs either $7 per month or $199 up front.

Fox Sports has not determined why rope snapped

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) ? Fox Sports says on Monday it still had not determined why an overhead TV camera cable snapped during the Coca-Cola 600.

The network says a full investigation is underway and use of the camera is suspended indefinitely. Earlier, NASCAR said it would wait for Fox Sports to conclude its review before deciding if such technology would be used in future races.

Charlotte Motor Speedway said 10 people were injured when part of the drive rope landed in the grandstand; three were taken to hospitals. All were checked out and released soon after.

Several drivers, including then-leader Kyle Busch, reported damage to their cars from the rope.

The network said the system was provided by Austrian company CAMCAT. The rope that failed was certified for a breaking strength of 9,300 pounds.

Luttrell on Leadership: Building a team that can execute a plan ...

(This is the third in a series of four articles on the Four Cornerstones for Business Success.)

?In the first article, I outlined the Cornerstone of Purpose, the underlying foundation for your business. With clear purpose comes intention and commitment. The second Cornerstone, Strategies, is about using analysis and judgment to determine a chosen strategic path. With intelligent strategies comes focused effort and decisions about resource allocation. The third Cornerstone is Skill. Expertise and execution are the tangible manifestations of a company?s purpose and strategies, so now the matter of skill becomes particularly relevant. Without excellence in execution, even inspired purpose and brilliant strategies will be for naught. In strategic planning circles, the saying goes, ?Execution trumps strategy every time.?

Execution is the implementation of the strategies you have chosen. The Skill factor is the consideration of both how and how well things get done. What are the quality control systems? How timely is the work? What are the standards for performance, from ethics to customer service to business practices? Excellence in execution requires a commitment to long-term internal development efforts, investing in the human capital as well as the other resources needed to get the work done. Skill-building needs to be continuous, and addressed on many different levels, starting with the individual.

?In organizations, the greater each individual?s skill level, the higher the caliber of the overall work by the enterprise. Some skills come with the person and some can be learned or developed on the job. As Jim Collins puts it so well in his excellent book From Good to Great, the first task is to ?get the right people on the bus.? Hire the most intelligent and skilled people you can into every position, then provide them with the resources to do their jobs.

?Groups are the next level. Every organization has both formal and informal groups. An effective group is more than the aggregate of its individual members. Intelligent systems and procedures, good communication, high levels of trust, and a spirit of teamwork are all examples of group skills. If you ever had the good fortune to be part of a true team, whether at work, in athletics, or informally, you understand how powerful a team can be. The high levels of performance, morale, and productivity on a true team are well worth striving for ? it?s one of the great joys of organizational life.

?Even more complex (and exponentially more powerful) are the gains that can be made with company-wide skills. Over time, organizations develop a character, a ?company personality,? and ideally, a set of skills as a result the cumulative efforts of all the individuals that have influenced its history. Organizational skills can be nourished and taught, and they are best appreciated from a long-term perspective.?

?Just a few examples of company-wide skills include: resilience, innovation, discipline, and conflict resolution. One of the most important company-wide skill sets for long term success is developing a culture of accountability. Companies where accountability is clear and systems are in place to support this expectation are dramatically more successful than companies where accountability is lax.??

Here?s an example of a very successful company with a high level of skill throughout the entire organization. While working closely with an engineering firm, I observed a strong commitment to excellence. High performance standards permeated the company. Examples of their company-wide commitment to a high level of skill include: an internal leadership development program, a system of quarterly performance reviews, and a variety of recognition programs ? for professional certifications earned as well as community service, project management and business development.?

To achieve this level of company-wide competence requires the fourth and final cornerstone ? Leadership. Join us here next time for the final installment in this series as we consider the vital role of leadership in business success.

Britain to target radical Muslim preachers after soldier's killing

By Peter Griffiths

LONDON (Reuters) - The British government, facing criticism over the killing of a soldier by suspected Islamists in a London street, is to set up a new group to combat radical Muslim preachers and others whose words could encourage violence.

Prime Minister David Cameron's office said on Sunday the group aimed to fight radicalism in schools and mosques, tighten checks on inflammatory internet material, and disrupt the "poisonous narrative" of hardline clerics.

"It will assess the range of strategies to disrupt individuals who may be influential in fostering extremism. It needs to confront those religious leaders who promote violence head on," it said in a statement.

The killing of soldier Lee Rigby, hacked to death near his London barracks on Wednesday, fuelled public anger about radical Islam. It has also raised questions over whether more could have done more to prevent the attack and put pressure on Cameron to tackle suspected militants more forcefully.

Witnesses said the soldier's killers shouted Islamist slogans during the attack. Bystanders filmed one of the suspects saying it was in revenge for Britain's involvement in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Michael Adebolajo, 28 and Michael Adebowale, 22, are under guard in hospital after being shot and arrested on suspicion of murder. Media reports said Adebolajo handed out extremist literature and made "rambling and intense" street lectures.

Home Secretary (interior minister) Theresa May said thousands were at risk of being radicalized.

"You have people who are at different points on what could be a path to violent extremism," May told the BBC. "We need to look at the laws."

Opposition Labour lawmaker Hazel Blears said people vulnerable to radicals were spotted too late and government cuts had weakened the fight against them. She told the Observer newspaper the government had "abandoned the territory".

Former British prime minister Tony Blair tried to tighten rules against hate preachers after the London bombings in 2005 that killed 52 commuters. The measures stirred a long debate about how to balance free speech and civil rights with a strong counter-terrorism strategy.

Religious campaign group Faith Matters said Rigby's death had led to a big rise in reports of attacks on Muslims.

Up to 2,000 people attended a demonstration in Newcastle, northern England, organized by the far-right English Defence League on Saturday. Demonstrators shouted "RIP Lee Rigby" and "Whose streets? Our streets?"

'LONE WOLVES'

Three more men were arrested on Saturday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. Asked whether the suspects were "lone wolves" or part of a wider group, May said signs suggested they were acting alone.

A parliamentary committee is examining the security services' handling of the case. Security sources said the two suspects were known to them but were not seen as a serious threat.

A friend of Adebolajo made unsubstantiated claims on the BBC on Friday that intelligence officers tried to recruit the suspect six months ago.

Asked whether the security services had contacted the men, May told the BBC: "Their job is about gathering intelligence. They do that from a variety of sources and they will do that in a variety of ways. And yes, they will approach individuals from time to time."

French police were investigating whether the stabbing of a soldier patrolling west of Paris on Saturday was a copycat crime.

Should I major in architecture? | Forum | Archinect

i don't know what the hell is wrong with you guys, but you ARE aware that real estate goes in phases, right? ?Its not a bad profession, we're just in a bad spot right now because of economic stagnation and all of you voting for Obama. ?As most of you are aware, the economy is picking up and people are actually building again.

OP, architecture is a cyclical business. ?Right now there are too many architects, because nothing is getting built. ?Nothing is getting built 1) because of the recession and 2) because there are already a lot of buildings in the US, and not enough demand for newer ones. ?Every 10 years or so this changes. ?In the late 80's there was a huge demand and as a result we overbuilt, and then there was no demand.

As the world starts to become more global you're going to see (and already are seeing) architects working on projects in places like China. ?Different places go through building booms at different times-- right now its not in the US, but it could be at any moment really.

Just don't get yourself in a mountain of debt. ?Unless you're planning on getting your PhD and doing purely theoretical stuff (which ISN'T affected by the ebbs and flows of the building industry) or working for a high profile artsy firm (meaning low pay) then the school you go to really doesn't matter all that much, despite what everyone is telling you right now as you're leaving high school. ?My friend went to Pratt for art-- it really didn't make her any better, and didn't really get her a job. ?Now she has a huge monthly bill she has to pay.

i'll say it again: ?THE SCHOOL YOU GO TO DOESN'T REALLY MATTER.

All this doom and gloom on this website is purely due to the melodrama of people in this field, mixed with a struggling economy. ?If you look at the posts on this website since 2008 the majority of them are just bitter because someone can't find a job, and they have nothing to do but sit at home and complain on the internet.

If you want to go into architecture, financially you'll be just fine. ?Trust me, if accounting or finance or any of those other high pay jobs sounds boring now, they're not going to be less boring when you're doing them 9-5.

Tips And Advice To Keep In Mind When On The Hunt For Health ...

Buying the right health insurance is a good idea for everyone. Whether you are a senior citizen or young, everyone can utilize the benefits a good policy offers. It can be confusing to pick the best insurance plan for you. The tips provided in this article are meant to help you to get the best insurance you can afford.

When you choose health insurance, understand what your coverage entails. Health coverage that addresses these might make sure that you are covered for time off should it become necessary.

TIP! It is imperative to have a full, working knowledge of how your health insurance coverage works. Health insurance which covers incidents like these might make a difference being able to afford downtime you might incur.

When it is time to renew your policy, take the time to evaluate your health insurance needs. Open enrollment can also be the best time to change vision and dental insurance if that is offered.

Vision Insurance

TIP! When open enrollment comes around, take the time to evaluate your health insurance needs. Your insurance needs can rapidly change as your health changes and your family grows.

If you have a family history of needing vision correction, or if there are hereditary factors that could cause problems in the future, vision insurance should benefit you. The insurance will cover a percentage of check ups and eyeglass or contact purchases. You are not required to have vision insurance, so choosing not to get a policy may save some people money.

You can get catastrophic coverage option instead of comprehensive to save cash. Comprehensive health insurance covers everything, but catastrophic will cover more expensive medical bills from hospital stays or emergency room visits.

TIP! Do a quick check annually to verify what prescription medications your policy will continue to cover. Every year, when you re-enroll in your insurance plan, your insurance company has the right to change the plan terms.

Choose the type of health insurance plan that best for you. Select between a HMO, PPO or HMO. Each has disparate benefits that you will need to research and decide on before purchasing. Be sure you?ve got the option to keep seeing your current physician.

Read over your health insurance policy thoroughly to discover which prescriptions are covered by it. This list will be different every year or so, so checking regularly will ensure that you do not suddenly find out that your prescriptions are no longer covered.

TIP! Track your health insurance premiums to cut down your tax liability. A lot of people are unfamiliar that their health insurance premium is tax deductible.

If you do not visit the doctor often, consider opening a Healthcare Savings Account (HSA). The money you are not paying in case it becomes necessary to pay for a premium.

The best way to avoid high individual rates is to join some type of trade group which offers insurance to its members.

TIP! If you are contacted by an insurance carrier in conjunction with your application, do not give information for which they did not ask. Answer only the questions that are asked.

Health Insurance

As mentioned earlier, health insurance is something that everyone can find useful. It is a little difficult to figure out every nuance of health insurance, though. The best way to learn is to read on the subject. Use the tips in this article, and you will be able to find the right insurance.

TIP! Choose the type of health insurance plan that best suits your needs. There are many different plan choices, including PPO, POS and HMO.

Rescuers look for pilot in deadly NY Angel Flight

Map locate Ephratah, New Yrok.

Map locate Ephratah, New Yrok.

(AP) ? Divers searched a large pond while investigators combed nearby woods Saturday for any sign of the pilot of a volunteer Angel Flight that crashed in upstate New York, killing two passengers.

The plane's passengers were found dead Friday night near where the small plane crashed in Ephratah, about an hour west of Albany, Fulton County Sheriff Thomas Lorey said. The bulk of the plane was found submerged in a pond, he said.

Angel Flight is a nonprofit group that arranges free air transportation for sick patients from volunteer pilots. Larry Camerlin, president and founder of Angel Flight Northeast, said the organization was "tremendously saddened" by news of the crash.

The twin-engine Piper PA 34 had departed from Hanscom Field in Bedford, Mass., and was headed to Rome, N.Y., before it crashed just after 5 p.m., Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said.

Officials haven't yet identified the passengers or pilot.

Witnesses described the destruction that started in the air above Ephratah, a sleepy town of about 700 people.

The parking lot of Granny's Ice Cream Shanty, which is less than a mile from the crash site, was filled with emergency vehicles Saturday morning. Owner Joan Dudley told The Associated Press that she and her employees were among the first at the scene Friday night.

"We were just leaving to get something to eat, and we heard this noise," Dudley said.

"We looked up and saw the plane flipping in the air. Then it fell apart," she said. "Parts and pieces of it were flying through the sky, and a body fell out."

They called 911 as they parked their car and ran to the crash site in the rain to see if they could rescue anyone.

"Airplane parts were all over the place," she said. "They were picking them up all over last night."

Ephratah resident Roger Berry, 75, said he was outside chopping wood when the plane crashed.

"When I heard it, I knew something was wrong," Berry said. "It made one circle and came back around."

Berry said he heard a bang, then saw pieces of the plane fall out of the air. Although most of the plane landed in the pond, Berry said pieces, including the engine, scattered about the area.

"My neighbor, she was sleeping in her bedroom," Berry said. "The motor fell 50 feet from her bedroom."

Berry said he ran home to get his raincoat, then assisted rescuers by directing traffic.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating what might have caused the crash.

Visibility at the time in Rome was 10 miles, said National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Montgomery. It was slightly raining with winds of 13 to 14 mph.

Angel Flight Northeast said it has set up free air transportation and medical care for more than 65,000 children and adults on about 60,000 flights covering more than 12 million miles. It was founded in 1996.

"We all offer our thoughts and prayers to the families of those affected," Camerlin said in a statement. "Our volunteer pilots are the most compassionate and generous individuals who donate their time, aircraft and fuel to transport patients and loved ones for free to essential medical care that would otherwise not be readily available to them. There are no words that can adequately express our sorrow."

Exiled cleric who taught UK knifeman praises 'courage'

By Dominic Evans

TRIPOLI, Lebanon (Reuters) - A Syrian-born Islamist cleric who taught one of the attackers accused of hacking to death an off-duty British soldier on a London street praised the attack for its "courage" and said Muslims would see it as a strike on a military target.

In an interview in Tripoli, northern Lebanon, where he has lived since being banished from Britain in 2005, Omar Bakri, founder of banned British Islamist group Al Muhajiroun, told Reuters he knew suspect Michael Abebolajo from a decade ago.

"When I saw the footage I recognized the face immediately," Bakri told Reuters. "I used to know him. A quiet man, very shy, asking lots of questions about Islam."

"What surprised me (is) the quiet man, the man who is very shy, decided to carry out an attack against a British soldier in the middle of the day in the middle of a street in the UK. In east London. It's incredible.

"When I saw that, honestly I was very surprised - standing firm, courageous, brave. Not running away. Rather, he said why he carried (it out) and he wanted the whole world to hear it."

The attack has been vociferously condemned by Muslim organizations across Britain.

Adebolajo, 28, a British-born convert from a Christian Nigerian immigrant family, went by the nickname Mujahid - warrior - after taking up Islam as a teenager in a suburb on the northeast outskirts of London.

He was filmed with his hands still covered with the blood of Afghan war veteran Lee Rigby, 25, after the attack. Clutching a butcher's knife and meat cleaver, he said the killing was revenge for British participation in wars in foreign countries.

He and a second knife-wielding attacker, Nigerian-born naturalized British citizen Michael Adebowale, 22, are in hospital after being shot by police during their arrest. They have yet to be charged. Police have also arrested another man and a woman under suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

Bakri said his organization Al Muhajiroun had nothing to do with the attack because they had not seen Adebolajo since 2005. However, Anjem Choudary, who took over the leadership of Al Muhajiroun when Bakri was exiled from Britain, has told Reuters Adebolajo attended the group's events until about two years ago.

"I think Michael, or Mujahid, is going to stand for what God has destined for him," Bakri said, speaking in English. "God destined for him to carry out the attack and God destined for the British soldier to die for the cause he believed in.

"Maybe Michael, in the eyes of many people in Britain, Muslim and non-Muslim, they don't condone what he did. They condemn it. But in the eyes of Muslims around the world they don't see him the same way. The Muslims in this country, they are so happy, proud of him. They see him as a freedom fighter attacking a military base."

Bakri said he had been living in Lebanon since 2005, under an agreement by which Lebanon prevents him from leaving the country for 30 years. But he said he was in daily contact with students in Britain.

what is pre-foreclosure mean? - Zillow Real Estate Advice

The most common use today of pre-foreclosure is when a seller is selling a house as a short sale. It means they are worried about being foreclosed and they want to sell to avoid it. The house is probably not worth what is owed so a buyer can't borrow enough to allow the seller to pay off the old loan and so the seller is trying to sell short which must be approved by the bank who will lose money if they do. It's another name for short sale.

Nixon ran for Governor of California following his Vice Presidency and lost handily. Would his political career be remarkably different had he won, or would it have just been another notch on his belt?

I think Nixon needed to lose that race. ?Deep down, he didn?t want to be Governor of California and went back-and-forth about jumping into the race in 1962. ?But Nixon needed to get his ass kicked by Pat Brown in that race so that he could step away, focus himself, and wait for the opportune time to jump back into politics. ?During that first exile from politics ? after his gubernatorial defeat ? Nixon did some writing, made quite a bit of money by practicing law, and built a remarkable political machine by campaigning for GOP candidates across the country that he was able to turn to in 1968 to call in favors of his own. ?

Had Nixon been elected Governor of California in 1962, it would have changed not only Nixon?s political career, but the entire political landscape for the rest of the 20th century. ?Ronald Reagan was elected Governor of California in 1966, so if Nixon had won in 1962, that wouldn?t have happened. ?Two terms as Governor for Nixon would have taken him to 1970, and he wouldn?t have a chance to seek the Presidency again until 1972. ?The timing would have been difficult for both Nixon and Reagan. ?The balance of power in the Republican Party in the last three decades of the 20th Century would have been far different than what actually happened.

MSI ships AMD Richland A10-based GX70 and GX60 gaming laptops

MSI ships AMD Richland A10based GX70 and GX60 gaming laptops

Just as we knew it would, MSI has formally announced pricing for its newfangled GX70 and GX60 gaming laptops -- the world's first machines to ship with AMD's Richland A10-5750M (2.5GHz - 3.5GHz) within. The 17.3-inch GX70 offers up a 1,920 x 1,080 native display resolution, AMD's Radeon HD 8970M on the graphics front, a 750GB hard drive, 8GB of DDR3 memory, a Blu-ray Disc drive, Bluetooth 4.0 and Killer's E2200 networking technology. You'll also get a SDXC card slot, HDMI 1.4 socket, 720p webcam, a 9-cell battery -- likely good for about 89 seconds of use -- a backlit keyboard and a frame that's 2.17-inches thick and 8.6 pounds. If none of that frightens you, you can plan on parting ways with $1,399.99 to call one your own. The (slightly) more petite GX60 boasts a 15.6-inch panel (still 1080p, though), a 7.7 pound frame and a $1,299.99 price tag. Otherwise, the specifications are essentially identical from its big brother, and both should be shipping any moment now.
